Winning the Pain Game Dr. Bill Code Shares His Journey
Dr. Bill Code shared some of his knowledge of nutrition and food supplements with the Nanaimo and Cedar Farmers' Institute at their monthly meeting. Dr. Code formerly worked as an anesthesiologist, but was struck with multiple sclerosis(MS) at the peak of his career. After coming to terms with his illness, he embarked with his wife, a registered dietician, on a course of exploration of his disease.
While Dr. Code found solutions to dealing with MS in careful attention to diet and vitamin supplements, he is also supportive of conventional medicine.
"By the way, we have not attempted to replace our medical colleagues. Neurologists are absolutely key for diagnosis and their expertise and, in conjunction with general(family) practitioners and other specialists, use all pharmaceutical choices to the best of their abilities." Winning the Pain Game, Code
Dr. Code spoke mainly about the importance of supplementing our diets with extra vitamin D. People who live north of Atlanta are often deficient in this important vitamin during the winter months. We can make sufficient vitamin D by exposing our skin to summer sunshine but unless we can chase an endless summer, we were advised to supplement using fish or krill oil, or tablets.
Vitamin D has long been known for preventing ricketts(bone softening). It has been linked to better calcium absorption in the battle against osteoporosis. Dr. Code stated that according to his research, this vitamin affects the operation of about 1 000 genes in the body. The Canadian Cancer Society has recently upped its recommended dose of vitamin D to 1 000 units per day as evidence accumulates that the anti-inflammatory effects of this vitamin may be important in preventing many cancers.
As you may see in the accompanying videos, Dr. Code has regained control of his body and seems to be holding MS at bay. His message is a sensible one: work with your health practitioner, eat a healthy diet, exercise, reduce stress, supplement if necessary, but above all be involved in your own health.

MS steals lives from so many people. It seems to be on the increase and is at its peak in the Orkneys. I think Canada comes in third in incidence. Women develop it more often that men. If a little sunshine and/or a cheap vitamin pill mitigates it, I'm sure for it. Thanks for your comment.
