Health Canada has issued a recall for water-filled yo-yo ball toys (I use the term generically here, as there are other brand names besides Yo-Yo), though such toys were already banned in Canada five years ago. The devices were given away as incentives for school fundraising programs.

The federal agency said Tuesday the recall involves a soft plastic water-filled yo-yo ball toy in various colours with a stretchable plastic cord that has a finger loop at its end.
Yo-yo-type balls and similar products are banned in Canada because they pose a strangulation risk to children.
Health Canada said it has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of the yo-yo balls in the latest recall.
This story is not about the regular yo-yo, which is considered the second-oldest toy ever recorded (besides the doll), and has been around for more than 2,500 years. In that time, I am not aware of it ever killing anyone (Rygar notwithstanding).

Sorry, Jordan, the yO Yo was originally a weapon and has most likely killed plenty of people.

Actually the yoyo was never used as a weapon - only a toy. The whole weapon thing was a marketing stunt by a certain company back in the 20s/30's (although I'm not 100% sure on the specifics).

Also - there have always been problems with these damn 'yoyo balls' - they are nothing like a yoyo, it's a squidgy goop filled ball with a long chord made of the same material, that simply stretches and retracts slightly (totally different to how a yoyo operates).

I may be being anal - but hey, i'm a yoyoer :-P
