Zoo Kill Boars Amid 'Swine Flu' Fear
I'm starting to get immune to all the news on the H1N1 virus. It's here, right in my city, and I just have to deal with it, without allowing other people's panic take control of my life.
This story caught me off guard though, of animals in a zoo, that tested negative for the virus, but were still put down.
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Three wild boars were put to sleep in Iraq on Friday because of swine flu fears, a zoo official said. The decision to kill the 10-year-old wild boars in Baghdad was a precautionary measure by the government to prevent an outbreak of swine flu, said Adel Musa, the zoo director.
It was done "to break a barrier of fear" zoo visitors had developed in recent days because of the spread of swine flu worldwide, he said.

This is just not done! Poor animal lost its life just for a "barrier of fear"... Ridiculous

These are uneducated people making those decisions. It not only saddens me, it makes me angry. Sometimes the appearance that humans are the only thing that count on this planet. Yet we have managed to screw it up pretty well.

I have to be honest - I was not impressed by the rate at which swine flu stories flew around the UK...
I would have been if when the virus got the the US the citizens started dropping down dead fast -
But its been a odd virus and somewhat weak ... It may resurge more strongly later - but right now it seems weaker than expected .
This story though is sad isn't it ? We are joined to life and have a sense of justice and proportion and there was not much here was there ?

Birds get influenza, pigs get influenza, humans get influenza. The level of panic and silliness boggles the mind.

Yes - I agree with Barbara - sensible lady ... I have been boggled a lot by this swine flu story-outbreak
However I did witness a couple of Pig Activists from the Worldwide Bacon Liberation Front who I overheard and one said :
"OINK - We'll never stop these humans from eating us now "
And the other one answered :
"OINK - Yeah,, but the chickens are on our side - they are sending in their virus poo bombs next and one of them is named Owingo Flew Laden "
My guess is animals have learned a lot from the news and there are chicken terror nests in Afghanistan .. Its only a guess though ..
