THE HAGUE (AFP) - A herd of horses stranded on a patch of land surrounded by flood water for three days in the Frisian town of Marrum, in the northern Netherlands, have finally been rescued. A spokesman from Frisian environmental organisation "It Fryske Gea" told the ANP agency that all the horses, some 100, had survived the crossing through flooded foreland bordering on the Wadden Sea to the safety of the land inside the dykes.
