This is Thelma Jesselman reporting from Pahrump Valley, which is a very hot place today and far, far away from herring fisheries.
But I was reading Forbes on my computer and this story just has shocked me out of my wits.
If I am reading correctly, some Herring Reviewers for a newspaper in Holland have received DEATH THREATS because they gave bad reviews to some herring they ate. How can that be that reporters are THREATENED WITH DEATH for a review??
And yet it appears to be true.
The newspaper Algemeen Dagblad said Wednesday it has received anonymous threats against several of its journalists, threatening to kill them if the paper publishes its 26th annual herring stand review.The review has become the prime authority on fish merchants in a nation where pickled herring has been the national treat for centuries.
I myself do not eat herring but I would defend to my death the right of reporters to say what ever darned thing they like about herring.
