High winds cause damage and disruptions on December 1st.
December 1st, 2006 was a day of high winds in Columbus, Ohio which kept electrical service crews and Columbus Police busy restoring power and order to the citizens of the thriving Midwest city. Among the disruptions caused by the weather were power outages to traffic lights, trees toppled onto power lines setting small fires, and roof damage to some structures. In a coordinated effort between police, fire, and service crews, power was restored and fires extinguished in an orderly and time consuming fashion. While service crews were occupied with numerous repair orders, the Columbus Police maintained station in areas that had not yet been attended to, keeping the public from harm.
Several police personnel were also kept busy directing traffic at major intersections and diverting traffic away from areas where service crews were busy going about their business. It was well past normal business hours before the outages and threats to public safety were addressed, and the high winds of December 1st, 2006 and the disruptions it caused are now a matter of history.
