NP Rank:
Hip Hop is Dead?

I read an article about a possible backlash that the hip-hop music scene is experiencing. Although music sales are down overall, the biggest drop in sales has hit the rap music scene, as sales have fallen 21% in 2006. With the recent announcement that New York City has banned the "N-word" from the speech of New Yorkers, and urging the hip-hop community to do the same, will the hip-hop culture survive?

Thanks for posting this Victoria...rap and hip-hop are two very different genres, I think. The only way I can think to explain it is... I hope hip-hop's not dead, but if rap were I'd be alright with it.

Ok i got what Kaitlin saying bout hip hop and rap and the focus of the article is the decline in sales which is mostly concetrated on by rap artist. In a way i feel hip hop has declined to a degree but i would say its mostly hip hop comin out of america,im from south africa and hip hop is so powerful right now.Firstly there is no real money to be made here from sales so its more authentic in a sense that the artist drive are not sales but social upliftment..I know how many kids in south africa has been influenced by hip hop to the point where they even using the nigga word.so to say it will die i dont think it will happen will just perhaps see less commercialism being pushed as the general public lose interest.check my myspace page www.myspace.com/rushay got some vid clips and music on there from my end of the world and some of the artist i been working with
