Historic Hurricane Season Underway

2 x Category 5 Hurricanes have already made landfall

Hurricane Felix has stormed on the heels of Hurricane Dean, both catastrophic CAT 5 monsters.  It is the first time in recorded history that two storms at the top of the scale (there is no higher scale than CAT 5) have came ashore in the same season.

The superstorm has been swivelling off the Honduras-Nicaragua border, a swampy region that is home to many Miskito Indians. These people are dependent on canoes to find refuge.*

On the other side of the continental landmass, Tropical Storm Henriette is also gaining strength. The U.S. National Hurricane Center expected Henriette to make a course towards Cabo San Lucas, a resort popular with Hollywood stars.

Disturbing Trend

If the past is an indicator of the present, then we are seeing the trend of extreme weather steadily growing worse.  One of the consequences of global warming is unstable weather, and this includes unpredictable instability and extreme weather.

In all, 31 Category 5 storms have been recorded in the Atlantic, the last five seasons have produced almost a third of these.
