 History Channel Description:

An Internet search for "9/11 conspiracy theories" yields nearly two
million hits. Were the attacks on 9/11 perpetrated by the Bush
Administration to advance its own interests? Could a government missile
have hit the Pentagon? As outrageous as these ideas may sound, many
people believe them. Why do these theories arise in the first place? An
interview with James Miegs, Editor-in-Chief of Popular Mechanics,
who refutes many of these theories. Watch as experts in the fields of
aeronautics, engineering and the military put these theories to the
test.

Sounds like a biased hit piece to me. Interesting to think though, if popular opinion is that nothing questionable happened, why would the history channel see the need? What do you think readers? Do you think that they will address valid points or cherry pick the weaker theories? Consider it a litmus test for the 911 conspiracy believers and skeptics alike.

8/2/07 - Popular Mechanics Again Shills For Bush Administration

As you can see, PM has a history of defending Bush no matter what the issue. All of the horror stories that we heard about Katrina were apparently lies as well according to PM. Is the mainstream media comprised of conspiracy theorists as well?

I feel that it is a good thing that the history channel is examining the issue. Your stance on the "Hit piece" might be a bit premature though. If they present sound sience along with expert testimony would it then still bea hit piece or an investigative show? There are always two sides to a judge and jury trial.

The first thing that gave it away is the way the description is given. Then you have an interview with Popular Mechanics being trumpeted as if it was the end all be all gospel. Has any one checked out the "Debunking The 9/11 Myths" story that Popular Mechanics wrote? The audio interview is a joke. The whole thing demonizes the 911 Truthers, its pretty sad. I remember one quote, goes something like, "all the Truthers believe that the government is some perfect, or Hollywood like group that never make mistakes and always know what to do next" Are you serious? Its like saying, in order for this to have been orchestrated it would have taken the whole administrations collaboration. JFC, stuff like that really makes me frustrated. Is it really that hard to believe that a small group of people could get together and pull this off? I'm beyond it now. I don't like waisting my time trying to open peoples eyes to all the unbelievable coincidences that occurred prior to, during, and after the attack. If you haven't made up your mind by now, you probably wont change your mind any ways.

This is the kind of thing that needs to happen.  (Whether the history channel is going to be biased or not is another story).  The usual responce to "conspiracy theories" is, "Don't listen to these Wacko's.  End of story."  If their ideas are so "wacko," why not refute them?  I hope that the History channel can do a good job of presenting the ideas, and finding out whether they are valid or not.

I have a lot of friends who believe the conspiracy theory stuff, and some of the "evidence" they give (and the sources of their evidence) sound pretty compelling, but I am in no position to validate it, so I never even try.  I just go forward saying, "I don't know."  I don't really trust mass media and the government, but I also don't trust all those "wackos" on the internet.  At the same time, I am interested in such questions as, "Where are the wings of the plane that hit the pentagon?"

I hope history channel could produce a documentary that would be interesting and informing to a "I don't know," person like myself.  The last comment is probably true.  90% of people who are mainstream thinkers are not going to change their minds.  99% of conspiracy theorists are not going to change theirs (as the evidence is just part of the bigger conspiracy).

I'm interested in seeing it.

Conspiracy theories continue to thrive due to the government's refusal to disclose all those little details... their story is too inconsistent. I personally don't believe that it was an inside job, but I'm also confident that they are not tellin' the whole truth.
