Though the first detection of HIV in Bangladesh in 1959 the rate of infection has not been. increased in comparison to our neighbors. A total of 8% AIDS cases were detected of which 43 have already died and most of them died on tuberculosis. According to WHOfUNAIDS report an estimated (2,500-15,000) HIV infected people were there in Bangladesh at the end of 2003. But according to National AIDS/ STD Programme (NASD) as of December 2004, the estimated case of HIV positive is 7,500, total cumulative HIV positive is 465 (Reported and confirmed), 87 developed AIDS and number of AIDS death is 44 (Cumulative number).
