The formation of the team was part of the House`s proposal for the exercise of its interpellation right on the Lapindo mudflow disaster. The House decided to put the proposal on hold since July 2007 and form the team which would work for three months starting on September 4 to oversee the settlement of the mudflow case.

After the three-month period, the House would evaluate the settlement of the mudflow case. If according to the evaluation, the case had remains unsolved, the House was likely to go ahead with its planned inquiry on the mudflow disaster.

Earlier, on Monday, scores of mudflow victims came to the parliament building to express their disappointment over the process of compensating the mudflow victims.
