'From household ladders to winning the Shell Eco Marathon challenge'
Students of Leon School and Sports college have achieved an amazing
milestone by creating an eco car using household aluminium ladders and
bycycle parts. Without any formal engineering backgroud they designed
and built and eco car named 'Leon-ardo' which won the Shell Eco
marathon challenge (Schools Petrol Class-2006) held at Scotland by
achieving a mind boggling 1552 miles to a single gallon of petrol.
In its lastest challenge at Rockingham motor speedway, Northampton the
eco car won second place by achieving 1322 miles to a gallon of petrol.
Leon School design & technology teacher Rupinder Jhita, who lead the
team along with technical advisor Dave Thorn, said '' Its an amazing
achievement for the students - we are delighted with how the car
performed''.
And Honda was so impressed with the eco car that the Japanese car
giant has selected the team to feature in its 'GREEN' film which will
be shown worldwide. A Japanese production team has already concluded
the final shooting and the 'Green' film is due to be released worldwide early September 2007.
