January 4, 2007 Texas - Attempts by Houston firefighters to battle an early Wednesday morning house fire were hampered by water line problems in a subdivision serviced by a private water provider. District Chief Tommy Dowdy, Houston fire spokesman, said the first fire hydrant firefighters tried to use was not working and a second hydrant located more than 1,000 feet away from the fire was not fed by a water supply sufficient to fight the fire.
