As the results of a nationwide survey by Royal Mail revealed junk mail was our biggest pet hate, new laws could soon allow even more of the stuff to flood through our letterboxes.

''Yes it is annoying. I get maybe 2 real letters per week and up to 20 Junk mail letters. I keep meaning to contact Royal Mail who are the distributors of most of it. I liken it to email spam except its worse as it has a huge impact on the environment. Tons of waste. Should it be punishable with a nice large fine? I think so, my junk mail goes strait in the bin, what a waste''.
