Venezuela can look forward to an exciting six years of a totally socialist state courtesy of Hugo Chavez. His presidency will run until 2013, but he has said that he is building a commission to oversee proposed constitutional reforms that would allow indefinite re-election.

First elected in 1998, Chavez has cemented his popularity by using a bonanza in oil profits to set up state-funded cooperatives and fund social programs from subsidized grocery stores to free universities.
