NP Rank:
I Don’t Need Television Parents
Ever since Janet Jackson showed off part of her breast during the
Super Bowl half time show, television networks have felt an
overwhelming responsibility to pander to the American public. And
honestly, I don’t know why.
The last batch of executive back peddling ass kissers came just
yesterday when NBC issued a formal apology for Jane Fonda’s offensive
use of the word, CUNT.
The incident happened on Valentines Day while Jane was a guest on the Today Show.
One might have hoped that Jane used the word to describe Today Show
host, Meredith Viera, but sadly she used the word while discussing the
play The Vagina Monologues which in recent years has spawned a movement
to stop violence against women.
Call me crazy, but I don’t find it particularly shocking that Jane
Fonda used the word cunt while talking about The Vagina Monologues
especially when one of the chapters in the play is actually called
“Cunt.”
NBC executives should have taken a firm stance and just ignored the
complaints, but fearing for their jobs and potential lawsuits from
bored right wing conservatives, they caved in and issued an apology.
So, I’m sorry Jane, I guess nobody ever taught you that instead of
using the word cunt, you’re supposed to say, “C U Next Tuesday.”
