Israeli Army Radio reported that IDF tanks brigades have begun limited ground operations in Gaza in response to the barrage of kassam rockets fired by Hamas into the Israeli border town of Sderot over the past two days. Tanks have only entered a few hundred meters into Palestinian territory. The IDF and the political powers are weary of getting involved in ongoing infighting between Hamas and Fatah and therefore are leaving the majority of military action to the air force. Israel has received a green light from Washington to protect itself from the continued rocket attacks; Prime Minister Olmert and his cabinet have approved a harsh response to the over 40 rockets fired into Israel in the last two days.
