"I'm a trained, licensed psychotherapist." Laura Schlessinger said July 14, 1999, in her second monologue. AND countless more time. She never was a licensed psychotherapist

FROM: Dr. Laura: The Unauthorized Biography "She calls herself Dr. Laura. But, according to the California Board of Behavioral Science Examiners, "Nobody is allowed to use 'Doctor' unless they are a medical doctor or ... a professor in the psychological field with a clinical license." Schlessinger has a Ph.D., but it isn't in psychology --- it's in physiology. Her doctorate was entitled "Effects of Insulin on 3-0 Methylglucose Transport in Isolated Rat Adipocytes." According to one of her professors, she spent most of her doctoral training time "pulling fat pads off rat testicles." Dr. Laura: The Unauthorized Biography

COMMENTARY: At the Santa Barbara News-Press, the fabulous wealthy Wendy McCaw's most famous global sycophant is the misleading "dr laura", physiology PhD. You can still find her books where it's stated she is a psychotherapist. There is CAMA, an award for "morals" that claim she is a psychotherapist. Who could forget the numerous times she said "licensed psychotherapist" on radio? And the diligent people who documented her statements. Now in question is her recent interview on Radaronline? Who are they and who owns them? The cutesy softballing is below standard. Is this some form of "astroturfing"? Anyone familiar with Schlessinger spin knows how far out this interview is. If you are not familiar, check out indoctrination techniques and beyond her global PR and sales machine. The union busting she does for McCaw. Schlessinger's products are "family values" and "morals". "Military/war" is more of a passion now she raised a warrior (she won't claim she's political)

More examples of Laura Schlessinger as a quack and her shoddy PR, Mike Paul, who described himself as "Dr. Laura's global PR consultant." He does not do corrections. He claims he'll answer some questions when submitted to her business.

The Sydney Morning Herald, "Posted by Samantha Brett" January 17, 2007 8:00 PM in her Sam in the City column wrote "Psychologist and radio personality Dr Laura Schlessinger". She's had time to make a correction. It looks like they want the good people of Australia to be tricked by a quack. Dictionary definition of quack:
1. a fraudulent or ignorant pretender to medical skill.
2. a person who pretends, professionally or publicly, to skill, knowledge, or qualifications he or she does not possess;a charlatan.
3. being a quack: a quack psychologist who complicates everyone's problems.

UPDATE:  On April 3, 2007 Shamblog wrote: "During my discussion of Dr. Laura Schlessinger in SHAM***, I noted that formal mental-health organizations frown on the misleading use of doctorates and other credentials, especially those unrelated to mental health. In Schlessinger's case, for example, therapists tend to resent the fact that she took the one doctorate she does have (in physiology) and used it to add a patina of credibility to her career in pop psychology. As I also note in SHAM, fully three-quarters of confessed Dr. Laura junkies told The Washington Post that they just naturally assumed she was "a psychologist, psychiatrist or therapist." That, to me, is a problem."

" Schlessinger will claim she has dealt with the sham that she is a "psychologist". It benefits her image when her global PR firm is sloppy here, and does not notify for a correction. Schlessinger never had a Ph.D. in behavioral sciences. She misuses the title and benefits from this oversight because something like 98% of her radio act listeners believe she is a credible behavioral science Dr. The dictionary has several ways to define QUACK, in one example # "3. being a quack: a quack psychologist who complicates everyone's problems." is most fitting. Quack is the nicest term used in her town of residence. More people refer to her as charlatan or fraud. It can be said she is a quack and what she does is a radio act. In her global quest we hope people are smart and do more research. DO THE RIGHT THING. Don't hesitate to contact newspapers and bloggers who are taken in by the "psychologist" shams. The advertisers need to know what the public wants......"

Thank you. I was trying to add this. Had interruptions. I'm not sure what you mean by spoof? I don't think this is "spoof". Why is it not authentic? You can read the Sydney Herald post. I will try to make a link and you can read radioshowlinks.com

From February 2007 radioshowlinks.com (Talk Radio,Amazon,Talk Radio) advertisement: "Dr. Laura is a radio show hosted by Dr. Laura Schlessinger on internet radio. She talks of how we should take responsibility for our problems, and is a controversial psychotherepist. Her psychotherepy includes advice and humor in her direct approach. You can listen to her show stream on internet radio." The spelling is theirs. She is not a psychotherapist.

For anyone who wants honesty in advertising or newspapers can call Dr. Laura's PR,
MGP & Associates PR
Mike Paul, 212-595-8500
mpaul@mgppr.com

He is able to make corrections, they don't usually. Paul should be able to give you a WRITTEN answer.

From American Journalism Review: "I received a call from Mike Paul, who described himself as ;Dr. Laura's global PR consultant.' He said Schlessinger is 'a global brand, and she gets media opportunities all the time. If you don't provide the questions, then we can't help you." They want the pulic to provide the questions.

Sam in the City

That is the Sydney Morning Herald claim:  "Psychologist and radio personality Dr Laura Schlessinger"  (she is a radio personality) It's my understanding the "Dr Laura business" knows she is NOT a Psychologist.  They may make corrections, this one has not been corrected. They do not answer all mail, but you can try to get a written explanation. To my knowledge Samantha Brett has not researched or corrected. If you ask 10 people is "Dr. Laura" a Psychologist (or other Behavior Science PHd) see what they say. In the USA many people think she is. She is a radio personality, like a Dr. Dre with physiology PHd.

"The paper's recently hired local columnist, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the syndicated radio commentator, requested that I send her questions in advance before she would 'commit to an interview,' she wrote in an e-mail. As I was responding to Schlessinger, I received a call from Mike Paul, who described himself as 'Dr. Laura's global PR consultant.' He said Schlessinger is 'a global brand, and she gets media opportunities all the time. If you don't provide the questions, then we can't help you.' A few hours later, he followed up with another e-mail: 'Let me be more clear: Dr. Laura and her team have decided to not participate at all with your story.'"

AMERICAN JOURNALISM REVIEW The Sound of Silence and Smackdown By Susan Paterno

Mike Paul is the person to contact.  These stories are about others experiences who have had requests. There are many more. Susan Paterno is the journalist being sued by the News-Press, Wendy McCaw (for Smackdown).

I'm not "spoofing" your system. I do satirical images, if it's the image. To my knowledge "pulling fat pads off rat testicles." from Vickie L. Bane's book, has not been disputed. Schlessinger would not hesitate to sue. It's accepted by rational people. Schlessinger does deny things, but doesn't present documentation. I have not heard her say these things since 1999, but professionals have made detailed records. I have heard her say things recently. Also there is alot in print. I can't remember it all.

I was surprized this is still going on with her. SHE WAS NEVER ANY KIND OF PSYCHOTHERAPIST. She briefly had an MFCC, a family counselor type license. She claims she had a practice (1970's?), maybe brief? Her MFCC has been INACTIVE MANY years. She didn't practice physiology to my knowledge, it might be correct to say she is a physical theraphist? She did get PHd in Physiology. This is why people see her as deceptive. In her radio act she poses as having authority in "therapy" and "moral" advice, it comes off as in BEHAVIOR SCIENCES. (Religion is a whole different area she claims authority) She claims she's cleared this up, but people still wrongly think she's a Psychologist. I heard her say she's a "shrink" the other day.

Authentic Dr.'s do not agree with her use of the title. She can use Dr. as an act (entertainment) and as her Physiology PHd allows. There are those impressed with her wealth and status and don't mind the misleading. I find it sad when I hear vulnerable people thinking she is Psychologist. When newspapers print "Psychologist" and won't do research and corrections I find that disgusting. Her life and recent events read like a "spoof" but that wasn't what I was doing "to your system" at all.

She is the dictionary definition of quack. If she had a psychotherapist degree it would be simple to document. She would be proud to boast. Many people here say charlatan and fraud. Thank you,
