I'm Lisa Lavie by Orato

I started singing when I was about 10 years old. It was in school. We were doing some little recital and our music teacher was going around the classroom asking everyone to sing. I really did not want to sing, so I was hiding in the back behind these guys. My teacher saw me hiding and he said, “Come on Lisa, it’s your turn.” I really didn’t want to, but I started singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and when I was supposed to stop, he asked me to keep going. Afterwards, he said, “You got the part Lisa. You’re it.” I was so excited. I ran home and yelled, “Mom, I can sing!” I’ve come a long way since then. Things started to get interesting when the man who produced and co-wrote Mariah Carey’s first album heard my demo tape and came calling.

I didn’t always want to be a singer. There was a time when I used to want to be a pediatrician or a marine biologist, but then I realized I’d have to go through a lot of schooling, so I changed my mind. (laughs) I didn’t really start getting into singing seriously until I was about 16 or 17 years old, when I started performing across Canada with the number one French Hip Hop group at the time, Dubmatique. After a couple years, when I was 19 years old, I opened up my own Karaoke company in Montreal. I did a few things to explore singing, but nothing really major until I moved to California, which is where I am now.

I’ve been in California for four years. After four long years my forthcoming album is finally coming to fruition. It all started when I got a phone call from this guy named Ben Marguiles, who co-wrote and produced most of Mariah Carey’s first record. He had received a demo of my songs that I wrote and recorded when I was 16 years old, he liked what he heard and he called me. He wanted to fly me out to Santa Barbara to record a song with him. I just assumed it was a lie, because everyone knew I grew up listening to Mariah Carey. I thought it was probably just someone messing with me. I kept on ignoring the phone calls and messages and didn’t take them seriously until a few months later. Read Full Story

Lisa, you've got a beautiful voice. I was looking up "If I were a boy", on Youtube, and thought at first that you were lip-syncing the original. Keep it up!

Great voice Lisa!

I´m very impressed.

Beyonce has a great voice. But The fact is that you sing "if I were a boy" even better...

Keep up the good work. Hope to hear more from you...

OMGness okay okay okay i was looking up if i were a boy and i saw you and thought u looked very pretty so so so i clicked on your link or w/e u call it and i was listening to your video and i thought th@ u were o so AMAZING. I found out i could sing when i was 7 and we were trying out parts for the christmas concert and every one was going to try out for the main christmas tree. So i said what the heck. and i just let it out and everyone's jaw dropped (exaggeration) and my music teacher was like "alaynie that was wonderful, you are very talented" and then she started to laugh b/c she was so surprised at and iqoute "what a big thing could come out of such a little girl." And then i got the part! but i am now only 13 years old and i am really shy to sing infront of people even though i am the loudest in my class and very out going i just feel as if i am bragging i think of the negatives "what if they dont like me" instead of "what if they like me." and other stuff. but enough about me, i just cannot even describe how beautiful you are in your voice and looks.!!!!!

I saw for the first time on YouTube back about 8 months ago and showed your video of you sining "Angel" to my wife. I was like, this girl is going to be huge, watch. I so glad to see your album is out now. I have it on my iPod now. It's such an AWESOME album!! Great job. I love all of the songs on it and it takes a lot for me to say that. These days it seems like only 1 or 2 songs are good on an album and you end up feeling like you got cheating. Everything or Nothing is hot and I'm going tell my co-workers about it today. Keep the great music coming and I can't wait for your next album!!

Lisa I discovered you not too long ago, I was looking up "Halo" Beyonce's new song and after listening to her I saw you and just as Alaynie said you looked pretty so I clicked on the link, as shallow or weird as it may sound. But I was blown away by what I heard and I without a doubt believe you did the song more justice than Beyonce did. You have a ..... I can't describe just what I heard, it was magnificent to say the least. So after that I started listening to all the songs that you had posted on You tube and I love the commentary you have on "Bleeding Love." Keep using that beautiful voice to good use and also, I'm not sure of yur religious background but if you are Christian I would like for you to consider doing some gospel, it would also give you a wider cross section of listeners.

Your fan,

Danielle...Kingston, Jamaica.
