John Lennon's assassination in NYC on December 8th, 1980 is one of my earliest childhood memories of an event in the news. I was almost seven at the time, but definitely remember how deeply affected people were. My dad, child of a Liverpudlian mother, grew up with the Beatles music, and saw them perform "Hey Jude" on the BBC's "Top Of The Pops" show as a teenager. In the next year or two I'd discover a treasure-trove of C-120 tapes and vinyl Beatles records in the basement of our house that would become my formative music listening experiences. R.I.P.
