"We wish to collaborate with various countries in the world in archive affairs, especially with Indonesia which shares a lot with our country in historical bachground terms," he said at the embassy.

He said Indonesia and Suriname both had lived under the Dutch colonial regime for 350 years and around 15 percent of Suriname`s population was Javanese.

"Therefore, Suriname still keeps a lot of archives about Indonesia and vice versa," he said.

He said according to plans the archive cooperation would be marked by an exchange of archive copies, including photographs and written documents.

"Following progress the archives would be kept in the form of microchips or be digitalized," he said.

He said Suriname would also send archive staff to Indonesia to

to gain more experience.

"A memorandum of understanding will soon be signed to solidify the archive cooperation between the two countries," he said.
