Intel profits slump

Chipmaker Intel posted a 39pc slump in profits in the fourth quarter after an industry price war hit margins.

The results were followed by reports that European Union investigators have recommended that EU antitrust commissioner Neelie Kroes formally charge Intel with thwarting competition in the computer-chip market.
