Poll results were delayed about 90 minutes.  Attendees reportedly began to question whether or not Mitt Romney had won, "After all, there were nothing but Ron Paul signs in the crowd" (gambling911.com)  Straw poll officials announced the delay was due to the malfunction of one of the suspect Diebold voting machine.  Ballots from the malfunctioning machine were counted by hand.

Attendance at the Straw Poll was about 30,000 to 33,000, much lower than the anticipated 40,000.  Attendance was about half that of the last Straw Poll.  Most campaigns paid the $35.00 ticket fee for the participants.  Mitt Romney and Sam Brownback paid to have fleets of buses deliver attendees to the Straw Poll.  Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul supporters paid their own transportation costs.

"Voting security was tight. Before voting, activists had to show ID and tickets, both of which were scanned to ensure they hadn't been used before. Stealing a page from the Iraqis, those casting ballots dipped their thumbs in purplish indelible ink to make sure they couldn't vote again." (forbes.com)
