Iranians celebrate 1979 embassy seizure
"Thousands of Iranians burned flags and chanted slogans against Israel
and the United States on Wednesday in the largest demonstration in
years outside the former U.S. Embassy in Tehran."
Feeling emboldened by the fact that they now control vast tracts of Iraq through their surrogates, the Iranian government celebrated a dark anniversary. By taking Americans hostage 26 years ago the Iranians successfully put Ronald Reagan into the White House. By timing the release of the hostages to coincide with Reagan's victory, the Iranians were able to swing the voters away from Carter. Reagan's presence in the White House allowed the Iranian government to justify their strong anti-Amerian stance and impose tyranical control over their own population.
