The Internal Revenue Service has named a new chief for its criminal investigation division.

Eileen Mayer, who headed up the IRS office that investigates fraud and money laundering, was named Monday to lead criminal investigations for the IRS, the agency said Monday. Mayer came to the IRS last year after working for the U.S. Attorney's office in Washington for 19 years, where she oversaw the federal prosecutions

IRS Commissioner Mark Everson said in a prepared statement that Mayer is a "seasoned prosecutor and knows the criminal justice system inside and out."
