A LEADING children's publisher has dumped a novel because of political sensitivity over Islamic issues.Scholastic Australia pulled the plug on the Army of the Pure after booksellers and librarians said they would not stock the adventure thriller for younger readers because the "baddie" was a Muslim terrorist.
A prominent literary agent has slammed the move as "gutless", while the book's author, award-winning novelist John Dale, said the decision was "disturbing because it's the book's content they are censoring".
I think the list of things which offend muslims is getting much too long and unwieldly. Let us begin a new list of things which do not offend muslims.

Nuke, we are not on the same side politically most of the time. However, we are this time. We cannot allow the preferences and sensibilities of any religious or political group to dictate what we are to read, think , or have published. I get tired of this kind of censorship by intimidation. Did we not learn anything from the hounding of Rushdie?

I wonder about that as well, publicreader.
It's good to know that the issue of Free Speech transcends politics. That is as it should be, I think. Thank you for your comment. I look forward to hearing more from you. BTW, I added your feed to My Favorites
