TYRE, Lebanon — The partial ceasefire in south Lebanon has ended early, with Israeli warplanes again pounding targets across south Lebanon on Tuesday.

Israel had announced a 48-hour stop in air strikes after more than 50 people were buried alive when a missile hit an unfinished home in the town of Qana where they were seeking shelter. But the partial interruption – ground and naval attacks continued throughout – lasted barely 36 hours, and Israeli planes were dropping heavy payloads all around this ancient port city on Tuesday. Loud blasts could be heard in the city centre.
