James Hathaway’s international work began with an unexploded ordnance removal project in 1998 when he was the Director of Communications and Development for PeaceTrees Vietnam before co-founding Clear Path International in 2000. As CPI co-founder, he was instrumental in building the CPI brand, securing funding and managing both governmental and non-governmental relationships necessary to launch CPI’s initial programs in Southeast Asia. In addition to his current role as Director of Communications, he has served as Clear Path International’s Director of Development, as well as both President and Vice-President of the Board of Directors. Along with his co-founders, his work in forming Clear Path has been recognized on both the floor of the U.S. Senate and the Vermont House of Representatives.
Hathaway worked for six years at The Orvis Company as their Senior Communications and Conservation Manager. In this position he managed millions of dollars in funding for conservation and animal welfare efforts around the world by working in partnership with organizations like the World Wildlife Fund, the National Fish and Wildlife Federation, Trout Unlimited and many others.
One of his biggest accomplishments at Orvis is The Orvis Cover Dog Contest that has so far raised over $700,000 to prevent and cure cancer in dogs. In support of this effort he wrote a commercial featuring Emmy award-winning actress Betty White (see it here) and is currently producing a second commercial featuring Betty for release in 2013.
With Orvis, he created the company blog OrvisNews.com. He conceived and still produces The Orvis Fly Fishing Guide Podcast with Tom Rosenbauer which has been downloaded over 2 million times. The show is often ranked as iTunes number one outdoor podcast.
In addition to his work with Clear Path International, Jamie continues to consult to The Orvis Company, as well as to The Morris Animal Foundation, The Polus Center for Social & Economic Development, Pure Water for the World and other clients through his company Hathaway Communications. He lives in Vermont with his two boys, Ryder and Colvin.
