Jamie Leigh represents herself as an independent humanitarian free of any corporate or organized group working for a cause that simply has absoutely no justificiation in todays world. She also is supported and joined by the international humane society as well as countless other organizations which have organized protests at Canadian embassies worldwide—in condemning the hunt, in which up to 335,000 baby harp seals will be bludgeoned to death this year.

In an appeal to the Prime Minister and all involved, Jamie wrote,

“Dear Friends,

More than 317,000 seals were slaughtered in the 2005 seal hunt. A staggering 98.5% of the seals killed were two months old or younger. Many of them were probably skinned while still conscious and able to feel pain. In todays world, there is quite simply, no justification nor reason definable enough to allow this sort of brutality and inhumanity to take place. The images have been seen around the world, the raw emotion has been felt, and the time to move and act to end this is now. No longer will a creature completely helpless and innocent of anything other than it's god given right to live and be free just like us human beings be slaughtered and forced to experience this kind of terror ever again.

From this point forward I have made a personal committment to no longer stand idly by regarding what I believe to be one of our worlds most desperate current animal genocides. I pledge to do whatever it takes to see this entire issue through to it's demise, and give of myself and my voice in whatever means may be in turn then called upon.

Again, I thank you for joining me in ending this awful hunt. We can make a difference now that will offer a time of real change to thousands of these innocent creatures who have been suffering for far to long.
