January 17, 2007: Dooda Desert Rock Supports Senator Leonard Tsosie
NAVAJO ELDERS SPEAK OUT ON BEHALF OF SENATOR LEONARD TSOSIE TO RETAIN HIS NAVAJO NATION COUNCIL SEATNavajo Elders encourage President Shirley and the Navajo Nation Council to uphold the Fundamental Laws of Diné. Navajo Elders and supporters of Doodá Desert Rock Committee support Senator Leonard Tsosie efforts to retain his Navajo Tribal Council seat.
The Doodá Desert Rock Committee recognizes Senator Leonard Tsosie as a Navajo leader of integrity who puts his constituents in the forefront of his decision- making in the New Mexico State Senate. It is rare that we have an educated and an articulated thinking individual to represent his Navajo people in the way Senator Tsosie does. We need representatives with Senator Tsosie's caliber to go to bat for us on the Navajo Nation Council, as well. The sovereign Navajo Nation has established a voting process whereby the voters have rightfully determined that Senator Tsosie is the individual who is not only capable of New Mexico Legislature membership but that he is a selfless public servant whose intentions are only to represent the best interest of the Navajo people. This decision belongs strictly to the people.
The Doodá Desert Rock Committee speaks from their past and present work with Senator Tsosie on grassroots issues where the people need a strong voice who understands their plight, speaks their language, and adheres to the Natural Laws in Navajo communities. He is a diligent young man with academic achievement and is now back on the reservation to help his people. A dream and hope that our elders have always had for their young educated people is to come back and speak on their behalf. It has come to pass and now is the time for our Navajo Nation government to stand up and let that dream carry out through Mr. Tsosie. It would be a large benefit to the Navajo people for a person of Senator Tsosie's integrity to represent us on the Navajo Nation Council.
