Lawyers' fees and those charged by governments every time a court document is filed are driving ordinary Canadians away from the justice system, a British Columbia judge says. Access to justice is a constitutional right, but the cost of hiring a lawyer and filing the paperwork is preventing many people from seeking a resolution to their legal problems in the courts, Justice Marvyn Koenigsberg of the Supreme Court of British Columbia said yesterday.
