NP Rank:
Karaoke for Christ: boom or bust?
It's springing up all over America. Or maybe it's a dying fad. Since the journalism has not really been done, it's still a profound mystery. Just like religion itself.
At the Beaverton Church of the Brethren, the resident minister, Pastor John Glasscock, has just advertised in the local Beaverton, MI newspaper for his flock to join him in pastoral karaoke sessions. "Do you like karaoke? If you do, join us Wednesday evenings for our karaoke service, starting at 7 p.m. at the church," the announcement states.
Many churches seem to be going in for a kind of entertainment that originated in Japan in 1970, and has been more associated with tipsy wanna-be rockers than with church liturgy.
So here is an opportunity for some interesting citizen journalism: find out if Karaoke for Christ is happening in your community. Maybe it was tried but never seemed to catch on, such as what happened to the Youth Karaoke, sponsored by the Faith Baptist Church of Fredonia, NY. Its website
has a notice stating "this ministry is no longer active."
This is a guaranteed story MSM will pick up.
