Following a battle with the record and film industry that has lasted over seven years, the developers of the popular file-sharing program Kazaa have changed their tune.
Sharman Networks has agreed to modify its software, effectively turning it into a legal downloading service. The announcement comes after the release of a highly critical report on file-sharing by the record industry.
Sharman has also agreed to pay the industry $100 million in settlement. This demonstrates that the company not only recognizes the magnitude of illegal downloading, but also the high revenue generated by the adware and spyware that has been bundled with Kazaa since its release.
