Free Kenneth Foster- pt 2
Texas Governor Rick Perry has commuted the death sentence of Kenneth Foster to life in prison. This is the first time Governor Perry has voluntarily commuted the sentence of a condemned inmate on death row. The Texas Board of Pardons and Parole, with a vote of 6 to 1, voted in favor of clemency for Kenneth Foster.

The Texacutioner is very unpopular throughout the world Karen. I dont understand why a country like the USA has a death penalty or how Gay rights and Abortion can be a political issue that can get you elected ??

Karen Hatter, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I am proud that this man did not face the death chamber, it seems in this case he truly was only an accessory which definately does not qualify him for the ultimate penalty. Good call Rick Perry. Sth Pacific, have you ever even been to TX?

Karen Hatter, I am as surprised as you are.  It shows that African and progressive bloggers can make a difference.  Keep it up!

I agree with angryindian- the extra publicity surrounding this case has probably promted the sea change in policy. It sucks that PR was the motivating factor in whether to execute someone proven innocent of a capital crime, but at the moment I'll take what I can get...

Sometimes the execution process is like an abbatoir with a production quota deadline.  Glad to hear of this exception to the rule. Sometimes short news is the sweetest.

I am happy the Governor spared Mr. Fosters life so he can spend the rest of his life in a cage thinking about the people he and his thug friends terrorized that night.

Karen Hatter, thanks for posting this...very interesting. Do we know any backstory on this? This is the first I've heard about this man or about his sentence being commuted. I'd love to know why, since it seems like such a rarity with Perry.
