Reds Win, Legends Fall
Wednesday Morning Baseball News
Reds Win In Houston
Bronson Arroyo finally received early run support and then cruised to his first victory on the season 11-2. Brad Salmon worked the 9th inning in a scoreless debut for the Reds. Also, Griffey was back and went 3-3 with a home run. The win moves the Reds back to .500 at 13-13. In this NL Central Division, staying at .500 will keep a team in the hunt all summer.
BlueClaws Grip Legends 4-2
Lakewood won 4-2 behind an excellent pitching performance from Darren Byrd, who picked up his second win for the BlueClaws. Gus Milner and Carl Henry provided Lakewood's power, as each homered in the victory.
Tuesday Morning Baseball News
Reds & Astros Hook Up
Bronson Arroyo gets the ball tonight, still seeking his first win on the season (0-2, 2.86). Some run support would be a welcome change for him, as he has had several good starts wasted already this year.
Legends Clamp BlueClaws 3-2
It was a long time coming. Douglas Arguello picked up his first win last night in his 15th start for the Legends, dating back to the 2006 season. He did it by pitching seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits and two walks. Though the BlueClaws made it intereesting with a two-run 8th inning, Santo Luis closed out the 9th, nailing down his 6th save of the year.
Monday Morning Baseball News
Harang, Reds Win
Aaron Harang moved to 4-0 in 2007, as the Reds won the rubber match against the Pirates 9-5. After dropping Friday's series opener 3-1, Cincinnati was at its low point of the season. Two quick wins over the weekend, though, have put Cincinnati one win away from .500 again. After an off day today, the Reds will face another Central Division foe, traveling to Houston to face the Astros.
Legends Snap Power 9-1
West Virginia has quite a team and showed it in the series against Lexington, but the Legends put a whooping on the Power by a score of 9-1 in the series wrap Saturday. Lexington cranked four home runs, two from Christopher Johnson, and cruised behind another outstanding effort from lefty David Qualben (3-1 1.90). The Legends now face the Lakewood BlueClaws in a road series to open the week.
UK Tops Georgia
Though UK didn't sweep the series, at least the Cats won two of three. Friday's affair lasted 12 innings before UK prevailed 8-7 on a single by Ryan Wilkes. Saturday, Georgia took advantage of big innings powered by a pair of three-run home runs and won comfortably 9-3. That set up yesterday's deciding game of the series, and Kentucky had to come back from a 4-1 deficit, eventually prevailing 13-5 on the strength of four home runs and five doubles. With Finals Week beginning, UK is off until next weekend's important road series at South Carolina. The Cats will have a chance at vaulting Florida and South Carolina into second place in the SEC East with a strong showing.
