Last time around, they dazzled the football world by finishing fourth at the World Cup. This time, Korea Republic aren't even favored to get out of the group stage by most. They open Group G play against Togo on Tuesday. Manager Dick Advocaat knows his side must grab all three points in the hopes of advancing, considering the other two games are against stronger sides in France and Switzerland.

Golden Goal reporting:

The World Cup is set for its first 9-5 work week of the tournament.
Over
the weekend, England met Paraguay for the opening match on Saturday in
Frankfurt's, Commerzbank Arena. Host team, Germany, opened the
tournament in Munich (the capital of Bavaria) against Costa Rica. On
Friday, the host team, Germany won 4-2 over Costa Rica... While Ecuador defeated Poland 2-0.

Then on Saturday England defeated Paraguay 1-0 without actually scoring a goal.

Sweden was not only tested, but the favorites had their hands full with
Trinidad & Tobago. The game ended in a stalemate 0-0 tie..

And in the late game of the day Argentina did a bit of a flop, but beat a tough Ivory Coast team 2-1...

Sunday was witness to some perhaps suprising scores. In the early game the Netherlands beat a talented Serbian team by inches 1-0.

While
Mexico vs. Iran proved to be a little more action packed. Mexico pulled
away from Iran in the second half of their match and remained perfect
towards their run in the finals with a 3-1 win over a solid Iranian
team.

And in the final game the always talented Portuguese
team showed their muscle early with a lightning quick goal in the
opening minutes. But this turned out to be the only points for the rest
of the day as Angola helped to slow the crowd favorite but they could
not capitalize in any way resulting in a Portuguese win. Portugal earns
a point toward the next round and moves on with a 1-0 win over
Angola...

In Monday's early game Australia was down 1-0 in the second half,
but scorched Japan with three goals in six minutes to win a big match 3
-1.

In the second match it was a very good showing for the Czech Republic as they proved that they are
the team to beat in this group, leaving the Americans with an uphill
battle for the rest of this round an dbeating them 3-0...

The final game of the day was suprisingly a bit of a track meet for two teams known for their defense, as Italy ran away with a 2-0 victory in their World Cup debut...

Let the fun begin. Korea Republic/Togo!

Goal!! Goal!!!

In the 31st minute of the first half Togo scores first...

Mohamed Kader (17) split the Korean defenders to put the African team ahead with a amazing goal...

Halftime: Korea Republic 0 - Togo 1

We return to the action after the break...

A fast break opportunity for South Korea. The Togo defenders break down hard on the Korean striker which results in a red card for Togo and a free kick right in front of the goal for S. Korea. Abalo(3) is sent off for Togo...

Goal!!! Goal!!!

C.S. Lee (14) scores on a very close free kick which arches up and in for the Korean's...

The Korean fan's are now alive and well as Commerzbank-Arena has errupted in cheers and chants...

A nice pass across the pitch for Korea which results in a nice header, but Togo's goalie stops any hope of a score change...

Both teams are pushing hard and have had scoring chances, but no one has capitilized as of yet...

7:40am

Goal!!! Goal!!!

It was a nice switch pass in front of the goal then a few steps for the Korean striker which resulted in a one timer by AHN JH (9) putting Korea in the lead... A exceptional kick into the high part of the goal, and the Togan keeper did not have a chance at a save...

S. Korea continues to press... Togo is a man short and it is proving difficult for them to press... The S. Koreans are using this to their advantage and are continuing to keep control of the ball... A real frustration to be short a team member as your ability to press becomes very limited...

But Togo earns a corner kick in the closing 6 minutes... However, they are unable to convert, and the Koreans take back control of the ball...

Togo will need to take some chances, which could leave them open for a Korean counter, but they need only one strike to equalize the score...

3 minutes extra time...

The red card was the difference in this match, and it could prove to be disasterous for the Togo team. And it does. As S. Korea wins for the first time on European soil... After losing 1-0 the S. Korean's step up the action in the second half and score two unanswered goals to win 2-1 over Togo...
