Left Coast Leaner: Global Warming Warrior: Al Gore in '08?
The Wall Street Journal reported on the enormous buzz about the possibility of Al Gore running for prez in 2008. He says he doesn't want to, but now would be the perfect time since he's all over the media with his new movie "An Inconvenient Truth" doing well.
The truth is that Hillary is utterly unelectable, so why not go for Gore? He already won once; now maybe he can take the office for real, even though it's forever tainted by the present occupant. The Democrats need someone with a political pulse, especially after Dubya told reporters that his bro Jeb would make "a great president". Scary thoughts.
It makes a lot of sense for Al Gore to be president at this point in history because of his credentials on fighting global warming, the beast that threatens to swallow the globe. It will be a losing battle against climate change in the end, but maybe some informed leadership can slow the inevitable. But here is an alarming stat: The total yearly ice loss in Greenland jumped from 96 cubic kilometers in 1996 to 220 cubic kilometers in 2005. One cubic kilometer of water, approximately 264 billion gallons, is about a quarter more than Los Angeles uses in one year. We're in for a wild ride.
