Imagine a city where high-tech jobs are available at new office developments; where families live in the city centre; and where you can relax by a new marina. That is the vision put forward by the Leicester Regeneration Company, which is proposing a series of ideas that could shape our city over the next 10 years.

The centre of Leicester could be transformed over the next decade under the most far reaching vision unveiled for the city's future. The demolition of two flyovers are among the proposals put forward by the LRC. The LRC has hired consultants to draw up a masterplan to guide the city's development over the next 10 to 20 years. Problems they aimed to tackle included high unemployment, lack of riverside development, unattractive parts of the city centre and barriers created by the ring road.

The Leicester Mercury is leading the regeneration of the city's Cultural Quarter with a £12m redevelopment of its St George Street head office.
