Blue roses to be sold in Japan

Not sure when I'd be inclined to give a blue rose. An amicable breakup, maybe?
TOKYO (AFP) - Think that red roses are predictable? In Japan, gift-givers soon will also have the option of blue roses. The Japanese company that created the world's first genetically modified blue roses said Monday it will start selling them next year.
Suntory Ltd., also a major whisky distiller, hopes to sell several hundred thousand blue roses a year, company spokesman Kazumasa Nishizaki said.
"As its price may be a bit high, we are targeting demand for luxurious cut flowers, such as for gifts," he said. The exact price and commercial name for the blue rose have not been decided.

The blue roses were used for my brothers funeral...
so I am afraid it is not a very happy story .
.he loved Elvis so instead of blue suede shoes we had blue roses .....and as his funeral was on Elvis' birthday it was very poignant .....

I adore taking pictures of flowers, roses in particular. I'd have to say that this photo that I contributed, a macro of the dew-covered blue rose, is one of my favourites so far.
You can find many of my other photos on my Flickr.

I saw the idea for a Blue Rose many years ago and had to paint one for myself.

This is not a photoshopped picture. Completely real, completely blue. Received them from my boyfriend. Some say they mean "acquiring the impossible". They are beautiful and really unique! You can find my other photos on my Flickr page

I was in art class to paint a blue rose in watercolor. I enjoyed it.
