Hospitals turned away 2,600 pregnant women

The Yomiuri Shimbun

More than 2,600 pregnant women were
turned away by more than one hospital while being transported by
ambulance last year, according to a government survey released
Friday.

One woman was refused by 26 hospitals,
taking three hours and 37 minutes to be admitted to a hospital. In
Fukuoka Prefecture, a woman was rejected by 13 hospitals broke her
waters in an ambulance.

There were 34,917 cases in which
pregnant women were picked up by ambulance before it was decided
which hospital they would be taken to, according to the survey by the
Health, Labour and Welfare Ministry. Of them, 2,688 women, or 7.6
percent, were rejected by more than one hospital, and 45 women were
refused by more than 10 hospitals in seven prefectures, the survey
found.

Following an incident in which a
pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage after being turned away by nine
hospitals in Nara Prefecture in August, the survey was conducted for
the first time on fire departments across the nation, revealing the
reality that pregnant women are often passed from hospital to
hospital due to a lack of hospital offering emergency antenatal care
and other reasons...

In seven prefectures, including Miyagi,
Saitama, Chiba, Osaka and Fukuoka, Hokkaido and Tokyo, a total of 45
patients were rejected by more than 10 hospitals. Thirty of these
cases were in Tokyo...

“The Rights of human Life

The sanctity and rights given to a
human life are of a particular value bestowed by human societies. But
it is a value determined by a limited understanding of what a human
being is.

Do these rights start at the moment of
conception, or at the moment of birth, or sometime in between? This
is a question that we cannot truthfully answer because the question
of rights differ from society to society.

There are no universal rights attached
to a developing foetus.

What is universal, however, from the
spiritual perspective, is the fact of the one soul and the creative
process set in motion at the moment of conception.

If unimpeded, these forces will play
out automatically according to spiritual law and usually result in a
live human being...”
