If you look at divorce statistics in Indonesia you will see that the divorce rate over the last decades actually decreased sharply...so 20, 30 or 40 years ago there was much more divorce in INdonesia than nowadays. That's reality, not just my view. Eventhough the divorce rate started to decline well before the 1974 marriage law, this law and stricter enforcment and regulations concerning divorce make it harder and more complicated to divorce than before. Very early and often arranged marrriage were reasons for a high divorce rate decades ago...at least in some parts of Indonesia. Similar developments could be seen in Malaysia. It might be that in recenty years the divorce rate has started to increase again...but has by far not reached levels of 30 or more years ago.
I think it is important to highlight that because today some religious leaders and conservative forces (like PKS) want to blame "western" moral values and globalisation for a increasing divorce rate. In reality it used to be much higher before. Of course some of the reasons of divorce can change over time and nowadays more women initiate divorce than before.
