THE Pope is setting up exorcism squads to tackle the growth of Satanism, it emerged yesterday.

Church chiefs are concerned at the rise in the occult as people lose faith in Christianity.

Bishops will have priests in their area trained to fight demonic possession, according to the plans.

Father Gabriele Amorth, 82, the Vatican’s chief exorcist, revealed the plans in an interview with Catholic website Petrus.

He said: “You have to hunt high and low for a proper trained exorcist.
Thanks be to God that we have a Pope who has decided to fight the Devil head
on.”

Experts say signs a victim is possessed include speaking in tongues and
superhuman strength.

Church chiefs are particularly worried youngsters are being influenced by
Satanic sects through the media, rock music and the internet.

Pope Benedict XVI, who became leader of the Catholic Church in 2005, is also
reintroducing a prayer, abolished in the 1960s, which supposedly protects
against evil spirits
