Fort Walton Beach area firefighters responded to numerous overnight and early morning calls of smoke in the area, only to find that low-lying fog was the real culprit. At about 7:30 a.m., the Fort Walton Beach Fire Department received a call that a neighbor had seen smoke coming from around the door of a vacant home on Yacht Club Drive.
Firefighters responded and even laid a line to the front door, before realizing that the gray haze swirling around the front door was an atmospheric condition.
"That looks like smoke," said Captain Charlie Barber, as firefighters rolled up hoses and prepared to head back to the station.
Barber said firefighters were called out to the area of Choctawhatchee High School repeatedly overnight for smoke calls.
