New "Grassroots" NowPublic Initiative

Consider this a "grassroots", get to the core movement. I've begun a thread with ideas for NowPublic contributors to provide original input into some major news stories.

News Topics: Stories For You To Cover

This thread is intended for the volunteer members of NowPublic. Brian Kennedy usually has a short assignment list for paid contributors and editors in the Newsroom.

When you look at this list, or other ideas, ask yourself: what does this story mean to me, in my home area and my life? What impact will this have on me? Why is a topic important? What story would I like to see other NP contributors to cover or contribute to?

It's very easy to copy-and-paste others' work; it's being done at thousands of sites around the web. Easy enough to filch photos, grab a headline from "hot" topics. But what is that actually contributing to the cacaphony of news on the internet?

That's where you come in. Each contributor has a unique slant, and can contribute commentary and news that rises above news aggregation!

Challenge yourself--what can each of us do that is a contribution that makes a difference?

Also, you can always find our daily news budgets (what PEP referred to in her story) here.
