The RAF has launched an investigation after a jet accidentally dropped a 14kg practice bomb during an exercise.

The device was lost during a 90-minute training sortie from the Tornado GR4's base at RAF Lossiemouth.

The jet's route took it across north east Scotland and Northumberland, with half the flight over the sea.

The RAF said that even if the bomb did survive the fall, it was "highly unlikely" to be dangerous - but people were warned not to touch the device.

The dark blue bomb is two-and-a-half feet long.
