SCHOOL students are set to be given the chance of going to college at the same time as working on an apprenticeship and studying for their GCSEs as part of a new vocational training programme.

Tresham Institute, in Wellingborough, UK, is offering pupils aged between 14 and 16 the chance to study for one day a week at the college, as well as spending three days at their school on GCSEs and one day on a work placement.

The young apprentices are set to start today and are the first to be offered the chance to take a more vocational route at the same time as studying for their GCSEs.

A spokesman for Tresham said: “It is a new course provision we are offering to students from Wellingborough.

“The reason we are offering this is because we want to make as many options available as possible for school students because we found they want more options, especially with the government pushing such vocational training up until age of 18.
