I've skipped my fair share of stones in my day, but I think my record stands at a mere 17 skips. 51 is just incredible!
Russell Byars, a 43-year-old engineer from Pennsylvania, shattered the previous world record of 40 skims, which was set in 2002 at the Pennsylvannia Qualifying Stone Skipping Tournament, was held by Kurt "Mountain Man" Steiner, 42, of Emporium, on July 19 - but it took officials from the prestigious Guinness Book of Records until this weekend to declare him the new record holder.
Amazing!!! World champion, Russell Byarshas manged to 'skim' a stone across water 51 times, shattering the old world record of 40, held by Kurt Steiner in 2002.
Before declaring him a record holder, Guinness World Records experts analyzed film of Byars' toss, checking the concentric circles in the water by each skip.
