With the 2012 Olympics in their sights London underground are installing cool air systems run from ice.
Hot, stuffy Tube trains will carry blocks of ice to cool down overheated commuters, under plans unveiled yesterday.

Engineers from London Underground are attempting to design the world’s first train carriages that will have ice units to ensure a supply of cold air when underground.

The “phase change” cooling system is one of several technologies that Tube managers hope will bring an end to hot journeys on the Underground network by 2012.

liamssoft, That is a much needed cooling system for London Underground. It can really get stuffy during those Summer times when the heat is all over. Good stuff.

Wow! I remember suffering thrugh the (admittedly few) sweltering days on the tube, where the only air-conditioning involved panting. Love 'em or loathe 'em, took the Olympics to make this happen, as AC on the Tube never got much play due to the relatively short summers. Good stuff.

Thank you jordan

I agree the Olympics are bringing some well needed improvements in this case.
They now need to clean the station exteriors up as a lot of them are looking
scruffy and neglected.
