DALLAS - Throw out the old game plans, Mack Brown's got something new.
And it works.
After a conservative, rushing-oriented plan in 2004 failed to accumulate a single point, Brown and offensive coordinator Greg Davis opened up the playbook and mounted 45 points, the most ever by a Texas team against Oklahoma.
"We're older, Vince is older, and the receivers are older," Davis said. "We had an opportunity to open it up, and we did."
The aggressive approach featured a number of gambles, including downfield passing and fourth-down conversions.
"This week we felt like we could get aggressive and go after them," Davis said. "That's the way we drew it up, and we executed well."

Oh, those Texas Longhorns. I lived in Austin for a few years as well as Columbus, Ohio. So I know a thing or two about how massive games such as the Red River Rivalry and OSU/Michigan weekend can become. There are annually just hundreds of thousands of people running wild with football excitement. This year was special as Texas came calling to Columbus (a first) and won in a great game, which will help Texas play for a National Title if they can survive the remainder of their season.
The new rankings came out this week. Texas is sitting in the second spot behind two time defending National Champions USC in both polls. The number one Trojans will have a tough test this weekend when Notre Dame comes to Southern California. But the path for Texas is a bright one this year. They certainly are in the drivers seat since they are in a weak Big Twelve Conference. Having beaten the biggest threat to their Title run with Oklahoma, the Longhorns will have to take a few teams seriously. They play Colorado next (Colorado has disappointed Longhorn Fans before, usually in a big way), plus the schedule holds Texas Tech, Baylor (A surprise this year), and Texas A&M. Not to mention the Big Twelve Championship game, which should favor the Longhorns if they make it. Either way, you can look for the Longhorns to ride their star Vince Young and if you have not seen him play, he is the real deal as well as electrifying to watch. You should be able to see Young and the Longhorns on television this weekend.
Texas vs. Colorado October 15th- 3:30pm.
