This rockfish may not be everyone's concept of a beauty :-) But there are a few interesting things here:1. Look closely at the eyes, a perfect illustration of a "fish-eye lens"!2. This is one of the species of rockfish in the California Pacific waters. They are known to live to 100 years but grow very slowly. A 1 ft long fish (such as the one photographed) may be 80 years old as I learned. Aparently they taste good but fishing puts pressure on the population. Certain species of rockfish are candidate for being put on endangered list. This was taken at Monterey Aquarium, through the thick glass of a pretty big fish tank. An off-camera Minolta 5600 HS(D) flash was used to illuminate the subject. The flash was zoomed at 28mm coverage. I was holding the camera with right hand and holding the flash with the other, with both camera and flash pressed against the glass :-) Nice posibilities with the smart wireless remote flash! When shooting with flash in aquarium, be sure to check whether flash is allowed :-)
